LOS ANGELES – Gale Harold is back on Wisteria Lane.

Six months after a serious motorcycle accident, the “Desperate Housewives” actor has returned to work. His character, Jackson, is primed to propose to Susan, played by Teri Hatcher .

The 39-year-old Harold landed in intensive care as a result of the crash last Oct. 14. On the set of the show Wednesday, he said the accident taught him that “you can play hard, but you may have to pay a price.” But it’s a price he says he’s paid back in full.

Harold’s return episode is set to air in the U.S. on May 3. The actor is signed to the series through the end of this season but says he has yet to be asked to return for 2009-10.

Six months after being seriously injured in a motorcycle accident, Gale Harold, now fully recovered, returns to Desperate Housewives as Jackson, Susan’s ex, on May 3. And we do mean fully recovered. ”Quite frankly, I think he looks even better [than before the crash],” says series creator Marc Cherry with a laugh, adding that Jackson reappears with a ”very important question for Susan — one that she’s stunned by.” (I’m thinking it’ll be something along the lines of ”*i** *ou *a*** *e?”) Harold’s unexpected hiatus ended up benefiting the Jackson-Susan romance. ”We were planning to end his story [around midseason],” Cherry explains. ”But because of the accident, we get to bring him back and have a nice full-circle journey for Susan in season 5.” As for season 6? Cherry says anything’s possible, noting that the once-commitment-shy Harold ”may have changed his priorities [since the accident].”

Looks like Susan Mayer’s lesbian days are over.

Gale Harold, who played Mayer’s (Teri Hatcher) younger boyfriend Jackson on “Desperate Housewives,” left the lane after fracturing his shoulder in a motorcycle accident six months ago.

Jackson returns on May 3, and his homecoming couldn’t have come at a better time for Mayer.

In his absence, the housewife went from possibly acting on lingering feelings for ex-husband Mike to developing a soft spot for her first and terrible ex-husband Karl to getting kissed from a female teacher.

And, Jackson reappears with a “very important question for Susan — one that she’s kind of stunned by.” Do you think it will be a proposal?

Karla in Janesville, Wis.: TV Guide says Gale Harold is not coming back to Desperate Housewives this season. Is it true?

A studio rep tells me the reports from TV Guide are wrong. The producers stick by this recently released statement: “We are working on bringing him back to the show. We just don’t know when. Because we had to work around his absence, the story doesn’t require him immediately. But we would like to have him back on the show very soon.” Hit the comments with your pleas to get him back on Wisteria Lane.

While it was great to hear from out-of-town Jackson on this week’s episode of Desperate Housewives, surely Susan would prefer that her pretty painter beau be with her in the (abundant) flesh, to keep their nascent romance percolating. But when, if ever, might the lovers really reconnect?

Although Gale Harold — who was critically injured in an Oct. 14 motorcycle accident, fracturing a shoulder and, by one account, developing swelling on the brain — was able to drop by the Housewives set to record Jackson’s aforementioned phone call, a timetable for the actor’s on-screen return still is up in the air.

“We are working on bringing him back to the show. We just don’t know when,” Housewives producers say in a statement to TVGuide.com. “Because we had to work around his absence, the story doesn’t require him immediately. But we would like to have him back on the show very soon.”

To buy some time, Housewives wrote in a phone call establishing that Jackson had reconnected with a pal in Riverton and wanted Susan to move to be with him. Judging by Susan’s initial reaction to the suggestion — and her subsequent all-night bender with Lee — Edie probably shouldn’t put a “For Sale” sign outside the Mayers house anytime soon.

As Harold continues to recuperate fully from his accident, rumors have swirled that he might not ever return to Housewives, or at least not until next season. Rebuffing such buzz, his spokesperson assures us, “Gale is terrific,” adding, “He’s the Gale we know and love.”

Similarly, Housewives producers described Harold’s recent drop-by as “fantastic,” saying, “He looks great, he’s completely himself and we had a wonderful time.”

E! Online initially reported that it looked doubtful for Gale to return to DH. However, they’ve just posted a new story that sort of refutes it. Right now, it seems to me that everything is up in the air and we won’t know more until Gale’s healed. Perhaps we won’t see him again until next season :(

There’s a lotta dish being slung right now regarding Gale Harold’s health, as well as his status on Desperate Housewives. We just ran quotes from D.H. sources who doubt Gale’s capability to return to filming the hit soap, but now we’ve discovered there’s at least a glimmer of hope:

He’s looped some scenes recently.

So that’s terrific news—he was able to physically get himself to the set, even though it wasn’t easy:

“He’s still in a tremendous amount of pain,” revealed an insider who’s hung with the hunk recently. “He doesn’t even remember a lot of what happened to him, and his shoulder’s really hurting him right now, but I think he will be back next season, in some form.”

As we stated before, Desperate sources unofficially made it clear they’ll be happy to have Gale back in any form. Us too!
